Purpose

There are many websites with references to the lectionary, bible links, notes for preaching, etc. This website is an attempt to focus on the common theme between the First Reading, usually from the Septuagint, i.e., the ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh), and the Gospel Reading. This project will explore the meaning of the gospel passage proclaimed to a worshipping congregation in dialogue with the First Reading for the liturgical celebration.

When the website framework for engaging with the whole year is in place, I will begin with a discussion on either Sundays 4-9 in ordinary time – The Sermon on the Mount; or how Matthew’s Gospel might guide discernment of a Christian response to the Uluru Statement from the Heart and the Voice referendum.

A comprehensive list of resources used or mentioned on this website is here. A Glossary pertinent to the Gospel of Matthew is here.
